DECONSTRUCTION 77 | Launched Summer 2011 - CLICK HERE FOR THE ORDER PAGE

OVERVIEW | Deconstruction 77 is an examination of the incremental breakdown of ordinary people, places and things using a repeatable process that can be precisely duplicated with nearly any initial photographic input. Sometimes the results reveal a deeper insight into the essential nature of the starting object, more often than not, they just make for another pretty picture.

BACKGROUND | I began to teach myself Photoshop and web development in 2006 after getting a taste of how expensive it was to hire out these services at the time and I've been hooked ever since. During the summer of 2011, I found myself wearing out the Photoshop "cutout" filter and, out of basic time-saving necessity, developed a process for systematically incrementing each of the potential settings - there are 77 of them - and viewing all of the filtered images at once. I really liked the results and began using it on some of my favorite personal photos, creating posters and larger wall-size layouts that featured groupings of the best of the individual frames. Friends started to ask me to run their photos through the process and the idea to open it up to everyone took off from there.

SPECIFICATIONS | The process works surprisingly well with nearly any initial input after I do some basic editing and formatting - some of the best results have actually come from low-res camera phone shots and even scans of older photographs. Final images are rendered with a 4:5 aspect ratio for the individual frames and are typically printed as 8x10s. Posters have a 2:3 aspect ratio and look great at 16x24 and above. Prints are made on Kodak ENDURA Metallic paper which, in addition to looking AMAZING, is rated as a museum-quality 100+ year archival surface. As the final artwork files are digital, a limitless number of custom treatments and layouts are possible - we can talk about what is going to work best for your specific situation before you place an order.

PURCHASE DETAILS | $150 CUSTOM OFFER: YOUR FAVORITE IMAGE TRANSFORMED INTO A 16"x24" POSTER Ready to frame and hang on its own, this print also acts as an initial proof that we can use to discuss any future edits or refinements, and to identify the most promising individual frames for subsequent prints and enlargements. Priority shipping in the Lower-48 is on me - other destinations, and super-rush orders, are billed at actual cost.

GALLERY OF FAVORITES | I've included some of my personal favorites below and have a library of hundreds more images, both my photos and those submitted by others, so email me if you are looking for something specific. Better yet: SUBMIT YOUR OWN FAVORITE PHOTO

BUY FULL PRINT OR INDIVIDUAL FRAMES :: TOP^D77 - SEVEN STRING SHARK | This image of musician CHARLIE HUNTER is one the first photos I worked on that I hadn't taken myself. I coincidentally received the initial poster proofs back from the printer just a few hours before leaving to see Charlie play a show in Denver, so I brought them with me hoping that he might agree to autograph one of them as a surprise for RICH, who had taken the ORIGINAL PHOTO at a different gig earlier in the year. Charlie was happy to do so, and actually liked it so much that there is now a copy, autographed by me, hanging in his house! Charlie primarily plays a seven string bass and some of the later frames look pretty shark-ish to me, hence the title "Seven String Shark."

BUY FULL PRINT OR INDIVIDUAL FRAMES :: TOP^D77 - LIQUID DEVOLUTION | Another favorite photo that I didn't take myself. This is a late-night scene of a friend finishing one last beer while everyone else is headed out the door of the bar into a waiting taxi. I love how his head appears to slowly develop into a number of different animal-like shapes before completely fading out, a progression that works on so many different levels...
